HO/04/08 - Dry Skin
Indications: Dry Skin
HO/04/08 is a topical therapeutic under development for the treatment of dry skin.
Dry skin is one of the most common skin abnormalities. Although certain individuals are more susceptible to dry skin, the condition can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or skin type. Although most cases of dry skin respond well to self-care, some cases require professional medical care. Persistent dry skin can lead to complications such as inflamed skin (dermatitis) and infection.
Dry skin occurs when the skin's outer layer, the stratum corneum, which consists of dead, flattened cells that gradually move toward the skin's surface and slough off, is depleted of water. When the stratum corneum dries out, it loses its protective properties, leaving the skin vulnerable to environmental factors.
Mode of Action
Based on above mentioned MOA, HO/04/08's is an activator of a biochemical pathway that controls sebum secretion from the sebaceous glands, and thus enhance skin moisture by a dual effect. The increased sebum content on the skin surface not only restores the skin's water content, but also seals it more effectively, making it less susceptible to environmental/genetic/drug-associated/disease-associated water loss.
